Lars The Catering Chef

Yesterday I got a new position, as a Catering Chef at Freedom Square, I am thrilled, and will have off weekends %95 of the time! 9.30-5pm. I will still be working cooking on off time basis if needed in the inn, I will miss my crew, but I will be around. I will able to be more creative, get more exercise, mingle with people, and use my artistic skills! Here is the article from the Job switch!

Hello Friends and fans of Rodney Pike. I am his wife, Lydia. I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for your kindness and support of Rodney over the past year or so. I don't know if you all know it but Rodney suffers from severe anxiety and depression and until he stumbled up Freaking News recently, he had lost all hope of ever finding something he could do and feel good about, subsequently leaving him on disability. Since that time, he has done all these awesome images you've seen here and in his gallery. Rodney credits his art as having "saved his life." His passion for what he does and so many new friends and fans who look forward to the next caricature, gave him something to get up for everyday.

Of course none of what you see in his gallery can be sold. They are only practice work and studies of technique. He can not sell it if he does not own the copyright on the original image. There are some that he has done for customers for in-kind trades or pro-bono for people who have helped him is extraordinary ways to publicize himself or have given him guidance along the way. There are some real commissions which he has been able to get money for - always a good thing and certainly helps pay for all the technology behind the work. It is Rodney's dream that his work becomes so well known and sought after that he is able to make a living off of it and completely replace his disability income and health insurance. We all know that with time, this is entirely possible because his work is unique and extraordinary in so many ways. There is nothing like it out there.

Unfortunately, friends, Rodney's dream may not come to pass. In fact, it is possible that you may not see anything new from Rodney for some time, if ever. Not that he does not want to. If anyone out there is familiar with Depression at any level, you know that when you get 'kicked in the stomach" or someone continually attacks you emotionally, you loose the desire to do even those things that brought you joy. Rodney has been and is under constant emotional attack by his ex-wife. She has turned both of his children against him and despite our having provided much more support than the court would have required over the years, she continues to try to squeeze more and more money out of him. She knows that we do not have much and certainly have nothing to spare. But now, using his art social media and his blog against him, she noted he posted that he got some 'commissions' and she has accused him of being 'under employed' and wants more money.

Consequently, just the anticipation of yet another ugly court battle with that woman has Rodney emotionally paralyzed. Those who wonder why you have not heard from him, he is thinking of you all and speaks of you all, He wants to 'Hang out" but can't bring himself out of this melancholy state and he can not see beyond the doldrums. Needless to say he is artistically muted as well. It is all he can do to post previous work and maintain a slight presence on Google+, his blog and facebook. What this woman does not realize (or perhaps she does) is that in her attempts to get any extra money he may have the ability to make, she is effectively rendering him unable to do anything and he is ready to throw in the towel. She will benefit nothing, unless her goal is to destroy him completely.

Please be patient as Rodney works through this. Know that your words of encouragement and your continued support are being heard and appreciated. Let's keep lifting him and encouraging in his art. The world needs humor. The world needs laughter. The world needs the unique art style of Rodney Pike. Let's keep reminding him of that.

I feel so much for your pain and depression. To be honest I knew you had a disability about the way you make your work, but thought it was something with you hands!

Today is Valentines day, and I hope you understand you are loved by so many!

In my personal relations with my Jesus, God puts me thru challenges in life just to test us and that we always need to glorify him, because of what he has done for us by sacrificing

his only son in trade of washing away our sins totally white and clean! I personally receive a real happiness in life to create my work and make a difference in someone's life,

and your doing the same thing! So bottom line is I will be praying for you to be able to kick the depression and realize there is alot of people here for you and that God is willing

to give you that light at the end of the tunnel we all need! Jesus is coming back to put everything straight, so stay on your path and he will show us the way!

Now this is my personal views of how I noticed a purpose in my life and if others are reading this please do understand I mean no harm! Thank You Lydia for sharing!"

I have a question for all my artist friends, I really liked how my sketch on Keith Richard came out and now I want to tranfer it to my 24-26" size canvas. I know I can use white glue, mud pod, acrylic. This photo attached is not flipped horizontal, but they had a line down the middle so I got it free. The painting is for a new bar and grill to be called Red Star in Tampa Florida.

Dear God Lead Me thru these trying times!

Hello everyone!

I know this is not art related, but as you know I have a wonderful family that God has blessed me with. I am soo greatful for everything God has made for me in my life. The video really makes me take a step back at my self and see the whole picture of how I need to support my family with both love and be the supportive husband and father God has called me to be! I can see how me taking a advanced Oil Painting portrait class with Thomas Fluharty to advance my artist trade might look as a wrong time issue, negative and even a selfish act. I am not sure if I have shared this with you, but I feel God has not only died for me, but has giving me a wonderful family that I am called to be the strong spiritual leader, and a gift to create art to build his kingdom here on his earth! I am also torn because even with these trying times we all have, we need to fight even harder to get work. I have been praying and asking the lord what to do, and I deeply feel I will be able to gloriful god (which I do in everything) and help support my family even more, by adding high end portraits to my portfolio! Please dear God help me, Amen!

Taking a new Class with Thomas Fluharty

I got some great news and I am so thrilled about my new adventure of learning! You guessed it... I am going back to take some specialty classes to advance my work on Schoolism.com. Thomas Fluharty is one of my favorite Illustrators and he does alot of different mediums, but when started working in Oils using the Dutch flemish style, he knew he had found his ultimate medium! He uses Walnut Oil as medium which helped his paint dry faster and is less yellowing than linseed medium, and there is more than just painting. I order some paints and materials. You will see more to come. God is great, and I have faith he will help me learn and advance in kingdom thru my work! Good night everyone!

Here is a painting I am working of my two dogs Jack & Jill.
I am thinking of taking a Class with Thomas Fluharty on Schoolism.com. I screwed up and signed up and didn't talk with my wife. I will do it soon, but in the meanwhile maybe some one can help give me some advise for my portfolio, should I consider taking the Stephen Silver Character design course, or The oil Painting course with Tom?

I lived in Sweden and became involved in everything Hip-Hop culture offered and at first everything was positive in my youthful eyes! I used all types of drugs, and drank alot, and pornography was and still is a struggle! I eventually moved to the Floria USA; after being arrested for vandalism with Graffiti art. I always knew there was something peaceful over looking me, but while I was drunk at a party at Ringling College of Art & Design one of my Christian Friends and great artist Tim McKenna came to my rescue, and gave me ride home. It took me until the birth of my son Sean in 1999 and I attended a bible study at St Anne of Grace in Seminole, Fl. I ended up on the ground and I know it sounds crazy, but a star in the sky was talking to me and became brighter! I had an overwhelming Sadness and at the same time an encouraging truth that God=Jesus died for my sins! I am soo greatful every day for his awesomeness!

"I was looking through all my class notes the other day and realized how much stuff we all actually learned in this caricature class and how its almost impossible to remember all of it now that we're almost at the end... so i start...ed compiling a list of all of the valuable things Jason has told us, to have on my desk to refer to from time to time and to keep me from having to watch all of the video lessons and critiques to refresh me on what we had learned in previous weeks...

humble yourself

find the true character of the person

keep it simple

look for simple shapes and size relationships between features

eyes and mouth, then head shape most important

think in terms of inner face and outer face

simplify the weight, where is it?

exaggeration: for every action, theres reaction

compare faces side-by-side to point out differences between people

when sketching: start light and thin, think shape and structure

when darkening lines, dont trace. use as guidelines and improve

upon whats underneath

caricature drawing = study of person's true character

exaggerate the truth by pushing the features

get the placement and general shape

don't settle for a weak drawing

perfect practice makes perfect

flip drawing and reference upsdide-down or sideways to turn off left

exaggeration: everything must follow - its the combination of

features relating to each other

likeness is king

width and weight: find the shape of head

pay attention to angles

look away from person. draw the impression of person

follow the form, exaggeration must follow

keep going. start sketching. start over!

think about planes of face, contours of face

sketching = adjustment & problem solving

for beginner: study portraiture before caricature

do thumbnails

develop yourself as an artist - sketch, think, learn, draw, paint, see

hair: get the main shapes first. slow down

don't do one drawing. explore and sketch lots of thumbnails

don't exaggerate one feature but all features working together

doing thumbnails are like taking notes

when doing thumbnails, think in animation drawing style

value painting: start with 4-5 values only and move towards more

complex later

what is the reason for what youre drawing?

try to capture the essence of person

what is a caricature to you? strong caricature, strong likeness,

essence.

hair: try to paint it in, dont use speckling

paint with feeling

think cartoon first

what pops out the most?

thumbnail = plan of what could be. possibilities

shape = placement of features

caricature = character, structure, likeness, exaggeration, humor,

truth

don't get caught up on things that dont matter

pay attention to shapes in between. negative space

eyes: capture the shape of whites of eyes

exaggerate and push but still think about anatomy

I have been struggling with finding my style with the involving the new digital medium in photoshop. I really like to sketch right with pencil first, pen and Ink, water color, gouache, and then digital. Now I know the step of Pen and Ink is a step that is now needed for tighter work with less lines because everything will be painted over! I hope you like that I share my progress in this painting. I just wanted to say I really enloyed my experience at this years ISCA convention at the Tradewinds on Clearwater beach, Fl. I learned alot, and I will never forget my experience and I already planning on the next one in Texas in 2012!

I needed to take a break last night from working on my current commission of a mexican migrant working passing the border. The client wants alot of changes, and Im lucky he wanted it digital. So I took a break and played around with my gouache of a current person "Michael C. Hall" "Dexter" he is some kind of serial killer on a show I do not watch and can't remember right now ( too lazy to look up, not important). I was trying to find a regular medium I really like with my water colors. The only thing I don't like in this piece is the greens are not working especially in forehead. I had things to do today, until 6pm which is the time the deadlne is on facebook: "caricaturama showdown 3000". I was reminded yesterday that to be carfule in boasting and I believe it all because of Jesus I have the power to paint and build the kingdom here on earth. My Paster Randy Evans from http://www.gracechristian.com meansioned this while reading Acts 12:21 look it up but basically they talk about how this king Heron wore this really great and silver shiny shirt that made all the peoples think he was God, He took all that glory for him self and did not redirect towards our saviour Jesus. God made him die on the spot of tape worm eating him up! (I should have painted the Dexter serial killer like that)

I was contacted by the mother of the Father in this Caricature Illustration. I like the fact that she wanted traditional media and I am really enjoying the pen & Ink and water color as my traditional medium of choice. Mark Fredrickson once told me at the 2009 ISCA Caricature Convention ( which is coming up real soon here in my home town, more to follow), and that was that I should try to leave my line work in my work as much as possible because that was my strong point. I am trying to find a fine medium between the liniar work and more tones and values. due to the fact that it is a gift for Christmas everyone will have to wait to see the full final here are close ups that I liked.

Autumnal Fun in the Sun/Son

Hi there family! How in the world are you on this beautiful Saturday afternoon? In case you somehow didn't notice, autumn has finally arrived here in our beautiful state! Gone are those long hot days of summer; and now we can enjoy the refreshing cool autumnal breezes that make our leaves turn colors and put a little morning frost on the dewy grass. Oh, wait a minute, I thought I was written a letter to the other church I pastor in Ossipee, New Hampshire. Sorry about that.....so, let's see.....Florida......oh yes, autumn is here! The humidity dropped one percentage point, so autumn is officially here!
Besides being fed the Word here at Grace and in your own personal time with the Lord, I know that many of you are encouraged, enlightened, and spiritually energized by pastors, authors, and/or bloggers that you come across on the Internet. This is good, healthy, and when you come across some particularly life-changing tidbits of faith you ought to consider sharing it with others. Well, I am challenged through these various avenues as well, but I still find myself learning the most about who my heavenly Father is through the life and times of my dogs. I know, I know: "Ugh, not another dog story!" Well, sorry about that, but you try writing these things once a week, and then we'll see how often God speaks to you through your dogs!!!
In any event, the other day I made a passing reference to this dog story on Facebook, but I thought I'd say a little more (I promise, just a 'little' more) about it here in my Words of Grace.
I couple of nights ago I was sitting in my usual place of comfort - my home office (otherwise known by my loved ones as 'The Cave'), listening to my music, surrounded by a plethora of books. I mention the books because my office is completely filled with books so it really is like a cave; the books muffle the sound so much that I can hardly hear anything outside of my office.
So, I'm sitting in my soundproof cave with my music on when both of my dogs - Keaggy and Calvin - come slyly into my room and forcibly squeeze both of their rather robust canine bodies between my legs and under my desk. With this particular action I now know exactly what is happening in the 'other world' outside of my office that the 'cave' (with the books and music) doesn't allow me to necessary be privy to. It is obviously thundering and lightning outside. I muted my music and sure enough - it was raining HARD and the house started shaking. What's so amazing is that my dogs (and I think most dogs, for that matter) can sense and hear the thunder when it is still miles away.
Being the softy that I often am, I wasn't about to rebuke my dogs (who were making my time - and my legs - in my office chair extremely uncomfortable), but instead reached under the desk to pet both of them on the head, scratch behind their ears and let them know that they were safe under the desk and could stay as long as they wanted.
Of course, this is where the actions of my dogs spoke to me about divine truth. How often have I felt frightened by the 'thunder and lightning' of this world; the pressures of my calling; my responsibilities as a pastor, friend, husband, father, and now grandfather; and of all the insecurities and weaknesses that I carry (and most often hide) from those around me? Where can I run to be comforted and reassured? Well, of course, I can run into the throne room of my heavenly Father and not only crawl under His desk (throne) but I can jump into His arms where He will hold me, comfort me, and reassure me that I am safe and secure in His presence. Hebrews 4:16 reminds each of His children: "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need!"
But here's something important to keep in mind: Ninety-nine percent of the time my dogs don't have to search me out in times of trouble - as if they are busy doing their own thing on the other side of the house. They don't just come find me when the thunder and lightning comes.....they are most often with me already. Sometimes it drives me a little nuts that my dogs follow me wherever I go, but at divine-lesson times like this I am reminded that my dogs WANT to be with me. They aren't insecure and lonely - they want to be with me because they love me! They are like little sheep that love their shepherd and desire to be near him because he will take care of them whether it's in time of trouble or just hanging out time.
Let's learn what it means to 'hang out' with the Lord continuously; to sit at His feet relentlessly; to sense His presence and love during stormy times as well as when the sun is shining and a gentle autumnal breeze is brushing against our face. Let's 'practice the presence of God' (as Brother Lawrence wrote about in the 17th century) all the days of our life - knowing that our Lord will never leave us, nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), He will stick closer to us than a brother (Proverbs 18:24), and that His presence will go with us and through that presence He will give us rest (Exodus 33:14). And all of God's children who accept this word of encouragement said.....Bow wow!
Here's what's happening:
Tomorrow is Sunday!!! Yeah! I love Sundays! I will be sharing on Acts 10:23-48 and my message is called "Anticipating the Mystery". Sound exciting? Well, it will be! It is also the last Sunday of the month so we will be receiving a second offering - our missions offering - so please prayerfully consider what you can do above and beyond your regular giving to care for our missions work - worldwide, local, and within our own congregation.
Parents of Prodigals: Will meet at 10:3o AM tomorrow for a special time of prayer for any of your adult children who have drifted from the Lord or who don't know the Lord. They pray in the Junior High room. Look for Gene and Rosie Mackay - they will gladly assist you.
"Reform" - our adult Sunday School class meets at 11:00 AM in the high school room at the south end of the children's wing. They are studying the Book of Isaiah - and I can tell you first hand, their teacher - Chuch Trujillo LOVES the Book of Isaiah!!!
Tuesday: Church History class at 9:30 AM. All are welcome!!
Wednesday: 'The Story' continues with Pastor Heath taking the helm this week as he give an introduction into the Gospels and then will focus on the Book of Matthew. Just us in the sanctuary (Cafe Grace) at 7:00 PM. The high school and junior high meet at the same time, as do our kids in their fantastic Wednesday night Kid's program!
Next Saturday - Men's breakfast at 8:00 AM! Oh boy, what a great time....see you then men!!!
Next Sunday - October 2 - we will be going down to serve dinner to the residents at Pinellas Hope - the local homeless shelter. Let Pastor Heath know if you want to come along to help - it's a great time!
Next Phaino - night of worship and prayer: Sunday, November 6th at 6:00 PM. Oh, what a beautiful time of worship!

I understand so much more our generational Gap now! We really need to connect more, you are old school (which totally rocks now when I am older) and I am now middle ages The new old school.

We can try maybe see each other on Skype (password: wildcraz) because I just want to see you.... I miss you our time together, you just need to understand that you and I need to learn of whom we you are now!?

We can start with trying calling eachother. I really like to talk and interact with everyday issues and I would like to see more of what happening. Bottom line is after watching this movie "The music never dies" Man really cool stuff...Dad) I remember before when when I was five years you told me about your divorce and that have me hold my mother as hard I can!! That is the day I shut you out, but now as time has moved on I would very much like to create some new momories just you and me!

This is a real weird to say in typed out form, but It had to be said of what I feel for you as my father and to be honest I am having a hard time being a father and trying to connect with my own son...God.... I want to talk dad... I LOVE YOU Father!

I really feel this is lossing my connection to our heavenly father. In other words I am having a really tough time connecting with our God!

BIG NEWS FAMILY!!!!
Grace Christian Fellowship is expecting a baby – a baby girl!!! Okay, half of you are in shock, half of you are completely confused, half of you are waiting with bated breath as to how I’m going to explain this startling revelation, and one more half of you are realizing the Pastor Randy can’t do basic math!
I have mentioned in the recent past that one of the signs of a healthy church is that it is willing to multiply itself in other areas so that the Kingdom of God here on earth (and in Pinellas County) will continue to grow and mature. Along with commenting on that healthy sign, I went even further to say that for a while now it has been the heartfelt desire of the leadership here at Grace (and for Pastor Heath and myself, even longer) to give birth to a daughter church somewhere else in the county when we felt the Lord’s timing was right. Well, we all believe that the timing is now right.
So, we as a church are pregnant with a daughter – a new church that will be birthed from its mother - Grace Christian Fellowship.  I prefer the birthing metaphor to the church planting metaphor, because in giving birth to a new church, the offspring becomes one of us, and as a parent would naturally do, we can feed, nurture, love, teach, and encourage our child to grow and prosper. Some couples talk about wanting children way before they ever plan on having one. Some other parents announce that they are currently trying to get pregnant (too much information for me!); while other parents tell the world that they are pregnant the moment the home test turns blue; and still others wait a couple of weeks or even months before they officially announce that they are pregnant – just to make sure.
Here at Grace Christian Fellowship we are a bit like the couple who has waited a few weeks before announcing the pregnancy of a new church, and we have done so because we wanted to make sure: 1. We had heard clearly from the Lord; 2. All of the leadership was in agreement; 3. And that the Church Board (which includes the financial committee) felt that it was fiscally feasible. We are now at that place.
Now, for those of you who have been pregnant in the past, you know what happens when you announce that you are expecting a child – or when you yourself (and spouse) discover that you are pregnant. Some people (or you as a couple) are very excited for you; others are shocked; a few are fearful; some may be sad (about the change of status and routine), some may be mad because they were not consulted; and some may even initially say that it is a mistake!
But hopefully, in time, the couple (and others) settle down with the news, knowing that it’s all part of God’s will for the couple (or church) to reproduce. With that in mind, I’m asking everyone who is a part of Grace Christian Fellowship to take a deep breath and trust that the Lord is behind this – we have not rushed into anything – and that He will take care of His children, no matter where they are (as long as they are in God’s will!).
So, I am now going to tell you EVERYTHING that we know at this point in time so that we can quiet any possible potential rumors; keep no one in the dark concerning our plans; and so that we can all be praying about how EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US can participate in this opportunity to advance the Gospel.   Again, I am now telling you everything that we know, so you don’t have to run to particular people and ask them a million other questions. They (the leadership) will tell you exactly what I’m telling you – since, again, this is all we have so far! So, here you go:
1.    Pastor Heath will be the lead pastor of our daughter church. Heath has been with us here at Grace for 12 years….12 years!!! It has been his desire for a long time – and I have known, expected, and anticipated this for years myself – that one day he would pastor his own church.
2.    There is ABSOLUTELY no problem or negative reason why Pastor Heath is taking part in this birthing process! So, don’t even begin to start any of that kind of talk!!! This is not anything like that insane TV show “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant”, in which we are suddenly telling the church that we are starting a new church just to satisfy some crazy whim of Pastor Heath’s or because of some conflict between him, me, and/or the leadership. This has been a lovingly planned and conceived project that has taken much prayer, discussion, research, and study.
3.    At this time we do not know where our ‘daughter will live’, other than it will be in the northern part of Pinellas County. So don’t try to dig something out of Pastor Heath that just isn’t there at this time. The moment we know that a good location has been determined you folks will be the first to know.
4.    As of this moment, we do not know when our daughter will be born….we just know that we’re pregnant. Human fetuses take nine months (266 days) to gestate; sheep take five months (148 days); Asian elephants take twenty-one months (645 days); and rabbits only take a little over one month (33 days)!   I can’t find a chart that tells you exactly how long a mother church is pregnant with a new daughter church; but this much I do know – when the Lord says it’s time – we’ll all know it.
5.    We are 99.9999% sure of what our daughter is going to be named: Grace Church. It’s a good name: concise and meaningful. But I will say at this point that since Grace Christian Fellowship is the mother, we get dibs on the name ‘Grace’! So, we can still say that we ‘go to Grace’; Heath’s members will have to say that they attend ‘Grace Church’!!!   Oh, all right, they can say whatever they want!
That’s what we know so far. As we progress we will keep you fully informed. So, what can we as a church do about our pregnancy at this point?
1.   We can pray for a healthy pregnancy and delivery.
2.   We can pray for Pastor Heath, Andrea and their three daughters – Lanie, Eiley, and Everly.
3.   We can pray for a perfect location that will assist the new church in touching the greatest number of people who need to hear the Gospel and desire to grow in God’s grace.
4.   Even though we only know that the location will be ‘north county’, you can begin to pray to see if the Lord has seriously called you to be a part of this new endeavor. Of course, no one has to decide that right now, and both Pastor Heath and I agree that your decision ought to really be centered on God’s calling of you there, rather than on some other convenience or friendship reason; but I’ll talk about that another time.
Okay my friends – my church family – I know that was big news. For some of you, you really weren’t surprised – you may actually be wondering why it didn’t happen sooner (because of Pastor Heath’s gifts and talents). For others this may have really come to you as a surprise, but I sincerely hope and pray that you trust us as your church leaders that we have done, and are doing nothing without having seriously and earnestly prayed that the Lord’s will would be done for all of us.
Not only is this going to be an exciting time for the new Grace Church, but the Lord has amazing things in store for us at Grace Christian Fellowship! We will have newer opportunities to evangelize and grow; raise up additional leadership; stretch our members to participate in ministries where they never have before – and on and on the fruit will spring forth! So, if we as a church family work together to be a blessing to our daughter, then we aren’t ‘losing’ anyone! Instead we are all participating in this joyous time of birth, growth, maturity, and Kingdom building!
God bless! (I’m going to send another church wide email with a list of upcoming activities, but let me just remind you of few things right now:
1.   Men’s breakfast this Saturday at 8:00 AM.
2.   Phaino on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM – a night of worship and prayer. And we’re doing something extra special this time: Afterwards we are going to have an ice cream sundae social as a little fund raiser for the youth. Brownies and ice cream sundaes for only $3.00. Coffee and Ice Tea will also be available. Consider staying for fellowship and be a blessing to our youth!
3.   I’m looking forward to preaching from Acts 10 this Sunday, but I’ll say more about all of this (and other things) later today.
4. Next Sunday (a week from this Sunday) is September 11th - the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. We will begin the service with a touching video to commemorate this event and I will have a special message for this church regarding the 'Time of Remembrance'.

I have a hard time simplifing my cartoon work, but I am not much into simple type cartoons and I am trying to work my portfolio towards higher end Illustration. I am going to talk them into running an article and Talk about my experiences in the Tampabay area with my art, life etc. Here is just a glimps into the Cartoons I can't tell you what they are about, or the full Illustration.
I have been busy working with my web designer and Friend Jason Longo on a new word press website. which I will show soon! I have new carpet coming in on Friday Soo I will have to move everything out of our bedroom. Keep in touch Thank You and god bless!

I saw this skinny older man, sitting totally still, just trying to zone out his larger wife peeped on talking, and you could tell he was not paying any attention to her. He had so much character and awesome features I just had to draw him with my Shapie liquid pencil. This was in Washington DC, while I was there for a Tradeshow for DST OUTPUT.

Seven Lessons Four Dogs Taught Me This Week About the Lord
:
Hello everyone....Happy Friday! It just finished pouring rain here in Clearwater....did any of it fall over your way? With Becky being gone all week to Tennessee with Lucas, Katelyn, Schaffer, Chris/Kim Johnson, and the high school youth group, I suggested to the Hillman's that their two dogs - Linus and Sally - could stay with me and my two dogs - Calvin (Linus' brother) and Keaggy. Remind me to have my head examined next week.
Of course, one of my ways of dealing with chaotic, bizarre, unusual or even mundane situations in life is to try to find or learn something about life, myself, and the Lord through it. Well, watching four very energetic dogs has taught me much about the Lord. It would really validate my decision to watch these guys if you allow me to write about it....
So, here are the XX things four dogs taught me this week about the Lord:
1. You can't do push-ups or crunches when four dogs are licking your face the entire time.
Although the Lord is always with us and is lavishing His love on us, He will let you do
your push-ups and crunches.
2. I know that I'm a pushover, and some of you will be appalled at this: But four dogs in a king size bed with me is crowded and uncomfortable, especially when they all want to lay on top of me, but you can't deny how sweet it is that they want to cuddle with me.
Even though there are millions upon millions of Christians, it's never too crowded on God's bed, dinner table, play room or backyard. Yes, the Lord loves His personal time with each of us, but He loves crowds....so, join the crowd this Sunday in God's 'big, big House" (thanks to Audio Adrenaline for the 'Big House' reference).
3. Four dogs mean twice as much clean up in the backyard - if you know what I mean!
Don't even get me started on what the Lord has to daily cleanup in the lives of His children! Thank the Lord for the sufficient and efficient blood of Jesus Christ that forgives us of all of our messes!
4. There's a leather strap to something laying partially chewed on the kitchen floor. I have no idea what it was connected to (maybe one of them swallowed the rest of it!), or who ate it (although I have a pretty good guess). It's a mystery to me.
There are no mysteries in the mind of the omniscient Lord God Almighty. He is certainly mysterious and incomprehensible in His ultimate glory and nature, but nothing is hidden from Him. That can be a comfort to the believer - and it can be a nightmare to the sinner!
5. These four dogs jump up and bark at any noise they hear during the night. Needless to say, I'm not sleeping as well this week!
The Lord God never sleeps; He never slumbers; and He's always at the top of His game - no matter what the late night distractions may be.
6. All four get hysterical at mealtime and not only gulp their food down without chewing it - probably because they are fearful that the others might eat their food - but they growl at each while they eat because they aren't about to share their meal with anyone!
We can freely come to the Lord's Table as one of His children and share the communion meal with one another in Christ. There's no need to gulp it, or growl at one another. We can all eat from the same loaf (the body of Christ) and the same cup of forgiveness.
7. Not once have I entered my house without all four dogs jumping up and down in excitement to see me. It's almost as if they worship me!
Do we jump up and down (or at least are excited) to come to God's House to corporately worship the King of kings? I know that He's excited when He sees you and I enter His House, so maybe we ought to be someone excited to not only greet and worship the Lord together, but be there in the first place!
Everyone comes home late tomorrow night. I only wish these four dogs would be willing to help me clean up this place before the family returns. I'm sure there's also a point in that revelation - but we'll leave that for another time! So, if you have a dog, go pat him or her on the head and tell them 'Thanks'. 'Thanks for being a faithful friend. And for teaching me about God.'  And if you have a cat....well, I don't know what you can do about that.....just love them I guess.
Here's what's happening:
a. Men's breakfast tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM. Come on men!!! Join us for this great time of food, fellowship and great teaching. We are promptly done by 9:30 AM.
b. Sunday is our blood drive - so if you signed up, make sure you come and check in with Becky in the narthex. If you didn't sign up, but would like to give - see Becky. She'll squeeze you in. And don't forget to eat something for breakfast and have a good size glass of water before you get here. Trust me - it helps!
c. Parents of Prodigals will be meeting in between the two services in the Junior High room. Any parent with a son or daughter who has drifted from the faith or who doesn't know the Lord (probably all of us ought to be in here!) come join this group for a brief but effective time of prayer for your wandering children.
d. As it is the last Sunday of the month we will be receiving a second offering for our missions. Please consider contributing to this offering above and beyond your regular giving. We are involved in a number of outreaches and ministries and really need your financial help.
e. My message this Sunday is called "As Opposite As Heaven Is To Hell" and will cover Acts 7:54 to Acts 8:1. This pericope covers the story of the stoning of Stephen and his glorious vision of the Lord God.
f. This Monday night is Grace Skates at 'Super Skate' on Ulmerton Road (east of the Largo Mall, west of Starkey Road, on the north side of Ulmerton. If I remember correctly, the building is now a lovely shade of bright - really bright - lime green. Despite the color of the building, we have a blast skating and hanging out with one another. It costs $5 to skate or play in the kiddie area, but doesn't cost anything to come and visit - and many do!
g. The next ladies Bible study starting date has been moved to Tuesday, July 5th. It will still meet at 7:00 PM at Angela Willsey's home, and there is plenty of room for others to join - so come be a part of this fruitful time of study and beautiful fellowship with the ladies of the church. Sign up at the ministry table or see Becky about the details.
h. The ladies all-night PJ Palooza is coming up. Friday, July 1st in our sanctuary, the ladies of Grace (13 and above) will gather in the sanctuary for games, dance contests, chick flicks, food, crafts, and just a general crazy and fun time. You don't have to spend the entire night - but many do! See Becky about the details.
i. Not to be outdone by the ladies - the men of Grace (all ages - it's up to you dad if you want to bring your young sons) are planning a 'Dog Night' the following week - Friday, July 8th at the church. This isn't an 'allnighter' but an evening full of food, foolishness, contests, and yes, a hot dog eating exhibition! And there will be some encouraging words shared as well!
j. Next Sunday night - July 3rd - we are going down to the homeless shelter at Pinellas Hope to provide a meal for the residents. Come join us for an evening of service and love. Contact Pastor Heath for more information.
k. Phaino - a Night of Worship, Praise and Prayer - will be held in just a few weeks - Sunday evening, July 10th at 6:00 PM. This is always a special time of worship - come join us - and bring some friends!
l. Come join us for any of our other weekly Bible studies that we have made available to you:
   1. Reform Sunday morning class in the high school room at 11:00 AM.
   Topic: 'Titles of Christ'.
   2. Tuesday morning Church History class at 9:30 AM. We're still in the
   first/second century of the church. Come join us!
   3. Wednesday night Bible study - 'The Story': This week Pastor Heath
   will share on the Book of Hosea at 7:00 PM. Youth groups also have
   their Bible study at this time.
   4. Theology on Tap - after Wednesday's study over at 'Your Pizza
   Shop' on 8th Avenue.
